Makita Corporation is not a household name, but it doesn't need to be in order to have an impressive 30-year history. In the company's ramp up to automatic vs. manual tools and incorporated innovation, Makita has been impacted by changes in the power tool industry.

Makita Corporation was founded by Toru­chu Higa on March 24th 1921 as Toru­chu Pneumatic Tool Works Company. In 1926, Makita began selling electric drills with rechargeable batteries and powered wood saws at Japan's International Industrial Exposition as a wholly owned subsidiary of Toru­chū Headquarters

The company prospered in almost every aspect of industry - from household appliances to industrial machinery until the oil crisis of 1973;and two decades later after selling their US acquired hand building
