<p>The 3M Company started in Minnesota with the request of Massie and Morris McLean that they needed an adhesive they could use throughout the years. When they created the first Scotch tape in 1898, they opened a door to crafting that would be revolutionize industries.</p><p>The 3M Company is an American multinational Forbes 500 company based out of Minnesota. In 1940 Ray Stata founded 3M, which would later later make tape, adhesives and electronic products for their third-party customers. The company started out with a small business called McLeanBrothers Adhesive Works and soon realized their potential after meeting Massie and Morris McLean, who needed to market the new product. After this meeting, .Joe McLean had the idea that he wanted someone else to handle marketing for the future adhesives from the company and in 1941, the first 3M product was developed.After World War II that ended in 1945, the company had a surplus of raw materials and found it difficult to find many large customers. However, this situation changed when 3M started selling its products to the United States Armed Forces. After these successes, 3M started making products for companies outside of the military, which was their first large customer. In 1951, 3M became a publicly traded company.</p>
