Zipcar is a car-sharing company that provides short-term car rentals to members.
Zipcar was founded in 2000 by Robin Chase and Antje Danielson, who had previously co-founded the online business travel company, Travelocity. Chase came up with the idea for Zipcar after she found herself without a car during her first year of graduate school in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She was able to get by as she lived close enough to walk or take public transportation, but she wanted an alternative for when her situation changed.
