Zalo is an internet telecommunication company in Vietnam that saw rapid growth, acquiring more than 40 million monthly active users in 2017. This same year marked the first time that Rolling Stone called Zalo a "popular social messaging app."

Zalo was most likely founded in 2009, officially launching five years later as a hack at one of the popular cafes which belonged to the founder and his friends. The Zalo website is still under construction and to date there is no Wikipedia article available on this application.

The branding of Zalo shows zalol (laughing out loud) throughout the logo and other marketing images; this underscores its playful nature and youthful market segment it targets - youth of 16 to 25 years old.
