As the largest home appliance company led by CEO Marcato, Whirlpool Corporation is present in over 50 countries.
Walter Marcato founded the company with James Vernon Bailey in 1918 after his father Holtzendorff’s refused to purchase any appliances again as long as they were available on auction. Whittled down from 300 products and chains of stores in a hat shop to four - toasters, kitchen ranges, ovens and lighting - the business began trading on the Michigan-based Detroit Exchange.
Within ten years, with the start of the leadership by two third brothers James Vernon and Ezekiel Irvin "Ezekiel" Bailey (1896-1956), just $10 was invested for each enterprise within Whirlpool Commercial Electric Company.
