The United States Golf Association (USGA) is the governing body for golf in the United States and Mexico. It was founded in 1894 and is headquartered in Far Hills, New Jersey. The USGA's mission is to "promote and conserve the true spirit of the game of golf as embodied in its ancient and honorable traditions." The organization is responsible for setting and enforcing the rules of golf, conducting national championships, supporting turfgrass and environmental research, and providing educational programs to advance the game.
Some of the USGA's most prestigious championships include the U.S. Open, the U.S. Women's Open, and the U.S. Amateur. These events attract top golfers from around the world and are held on some of the most challenging and historic golf courses in the United States. The USGA also runs the USGA Handicap System, which provides a standardized method for golfers to calculate their handicaps and compete fairly against players of different skill levels.
