Nasdaq is a stock exchange that operates the world’s second-largest stock market in terms of total market capitalization. It was founded in 1971 by the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) as one of the first electronic stock exchanges.

Nasdaq has grown over time from a small index provider to an international organization with more than 2,400 employees and more than 1,600 listings on its exchanges.

In 2001, Nasdaq merged with OMX to form OMX Group. In 2007, it merged with American Stock Exchange (AMEX). In 2013, it became a part of NASDAQ OMX Group Incorporated after NASDAQ OMX Group acquired NASD and merged it with NYSE Euronext to form a single company called NYSE Group.
