In 1900, a Michelin brother who lives in Clermont-Ferrand became stunned by his own invention – pneumatic radial tire.
Michelin began by producing Endless Radial tires for bicycles, which were invented and patented by Gaston Bluecher. Michelin then went to work perfecting succeeding generations of pneumatic tires. Specifically first successfully using the technique on Pneumathic Radial Tyre on 18 May 1908 and commercial production in 1909. In 1910, the company produced its first car tire.
Currently Michelin is the largest tyre manufacturer in Europe with approximately 20% of that market share worldwide and about 65 manufacturing locations all over the world with more than 200 million tyres generated annually.
