<p>Malaysia Airlines is a Malaysian airline that was founded in 1947.</p><p>Malaysia Airlines has been through a lot of ups and downs in its history. It was founded on September 16, 1947 by Tunku Abdul Rahman with the help of an investment from the Malayan government. The airline's first flight took off on May 17, 1949 from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore with five passengers on board. It had only one airplane: a single-engine de Havilland Dragon Rapide that could carry 12 passengers at a time.</p><p>The company grew rapidly over the next few decades, and it became Malaysia's national carrier in 1966. However, its fortunes took a downward turn in 2014 when it was hit by two major disasters: Flight 370 disappeared without trace after taking off from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing; and Flight 17 was shot down over Ukraine while en route to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam.</p>
