Disney was founded on October 16, 1923, by brothers Walt and Roy O. Disney as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio.

After being turned down for a bank loan due to declining economic conditions, the studio made a successful distribution agreement with an independent producer-distributor named Pat Powers so that they could both produce cartoons of Mickey Mouse and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit .
