Blaupunkt GmbH is a German car audio equipment and parts maker. Founded in Germany in 1873, until June 2005 it was owned by the Siemens AG company, which made it part of Siemens VDO Automotive Systems. In 2008 the company was bought by a joint venture between Albert Schmidt and BSH Hochschwarzwald (the owners of Kenwood Electronics Solutions).
Before 1999, Blaupunkt did not have a large competitor that was popular enough to worry them. However, in 1999 when their rivals such as Alpine and Clarion came up with all-new devices, the company was forced to adapt by updated aerial and channel layouts. The pinnacle of German technology served this industry well.
