Avis is the U.S’s largest car rental company and most popular car rental brand with over 33,000 locations worldwide

Avis had a mere six days of suspensions due to public outrage in 2000, but its safety record has been tarnished.

In the early 2000s, Avis had a temporary suspension in connection with nine lawsuits against individual car rentals. Although it was only six days long and led to but one adverse publicity issuance that cost Avis $156,000, it led to public outcry. According to its annual report filed by January 5th 2001: "Our quality control department has had serious difficulties."

The financial consequences were extremely significant for the six-day suspension as significant amounts of business quality dropped and revenue also declined drastically because of an inability for cars available through Avis until their plight became known by their customers.
