Albirex Niigata is a Japanese football club that currently competes in the J1 League.
Albirex Niigata was founded in 1994 as a result of a merger between two clubs, Albireo and Niigata Soccer Club. The club’s name comes from the two merged clubs’ names: "Albireo" refers to the star Albireo, which is part of the constellation Cygnus and "Niigata Soccer Club" refers to Niigata City.
The team’s home ground is the NACK5 Stadium, which they share with Albirex's local rivals Urawa Red Diamonds. The stadium was originally opened in 1997 and has an official capacity of 25,000 people. In recent years there have been numerous extensions made to increase its capacity to 42,000 people.
